North Carolina Assemblywoman Aisha Dew, C’00 to speak at Founders Day Event

Salem College alumna Aisha Dew, C ’00, who is now the North Carolina Assemblywoman from the 107th District, will deliver the Salem Academy and College Founders Day Convocation address on Friday, April 11, from 4:15 to 5 p.m. The event will take place in the recently renovated May Dell. All faculty, students, staff, and alumnae are warmly invited to attend.

Aisha O. Dew is a dedicated political strategist and public servant, currently representing North Carolina’s 107th House District in the General Assembly. She assumed office on January 1, 2025. Born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, Dew has over a decade of experience in political organizing and advocacy. She earned her bachelor’s degree in arts administration from Salem College. During her time at Salem, Aisha was actively engaged in theater and enjoyed her time on stage. She served as an honor guide as a member of the Fremdendienerin. As an alumna, she co-chaired the 250th Founder’s Day celebration.

Her career includes pivotal roles such as first vice chair of the North Carolina Democratic Party, chair of the Mecklenburg County Democratic Party, and state director for Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign. Notably, Dew played a significant role in the historic election of Vi Lyles as Charlotte’s first Black female mayor.

In her capacity as political director for Higher Heights for America, Dew has been instrumental in developing strategies to recruit, train, and support Black women pursuing public office. Her efforts have been recognized in various media outlets, including The New York Times and CNN. As a legislator, Dew is committed to championing reproductive justice, supporting small businesses, protecting the environment, and ensuring comprehensive community safety. Her unwavering dedication to public service continues to drive her efforts in advocating for equitable policies and community empowerment in North Carolina. 

We are excited to hear from Assemblywoman Dew at our 2025 Founders Day Convocation.  As always, Founders Day is a special tradition to celebrate as we honor our notable past and focus on our promising future.
