Be Remarkable: Meet Precious Kabalungi

My relationship with my teachers has been supportive, encouraging, and something I look forward to every day.

Salem Academy senior boarding student Precious Kabalungi came to Salem from her home country of Uganda in the fall of 2025. She was brought to Salem through the ASSIST Scholars program, which matches exceptional international students with leading private high schools in the United States. Precious had never heard of Salem Academy before ASSIST matched her with the school, and said, “They don’t tell you what school you’re going to attend; you’re randomly paired. They asked about my interests, which are STEM and women’s empowerment. I wanted a place where I can grow into the person I want to be in the future. I was really glad I was paired with Salem Academy because it’s the best school I could have come to.”

Precious plans to study computer science and engineering in college, driven by her desire to solve real-world challenges and use technology as a force for good. In Uganda, Precious has already started two initiatives to help her community: Safe Water at Home and Mommy’s Love. Safe Water at Home provides water purifiers that use natural elements to produce clean water at a low cost. Through Mommy’s Love, she raises money for children in her community who lack the funds to purchase school supplies.

I am drawn to computer science and engineering because of my love for math and my love of doing hands-on things. I believe that through computer science and engineering, I can make a great impact on our world.

The hands-on learning and mentoring Precious has received at Salem Academy have already had a significant impact on her. “My teachers at Salem Academy are really inspiring. If you don’t understand something, they’re always ready to go through it again, practice with you, and take you through every step,” Precious said.

From creating charity initiatives at a very young age to traveling to the other side of the world to attend school at Salem, Precious has proven time and again that she has the leadership skills to make an incredible difference in the world. The Salem Academy community is proud to call her a Salem Sister!
